HTTPS or HTTP Secured

Often the protocol http is merged with Internet in users’ head. But it is not the same. Internet is full of protocols :

-ftp, to transfert files
-http to transfert texts
-smtp, to retrieve mails
-pop to get mails
-etc…

Http is the famoust, because it’s a part of the URL and to access a website that you get on your keyboard. Another way to call the ring made by all the http entity is : Web. This web is not really secure, in fact all the infos between your computer and a server are not crypt.

We have tendency to forget that Internet is just a cable or wifi (which become a cable), and a hacker for example could connect on this cable. If you connect to google and that your best friend the hacker is there, listening, he will read all the keyword. It is not really dangerous. But if you are on the Web and you go to an online shop… You enter you name, your adress, etc… Plus your credit card. And the hacker smiles, because he was wasting his time with your stupids request on google, now, he got paid…

HTTPS has been developped for this purpose. It is just http with a crypt system. Usually when you go to a serious online shop, you pass your command on an HTTPS website, which means that if someone listen your connection, your precious data won’t be readable and it will take a lot of time to decrypt these (too much time with a PC)… Of course companies such as Ebay or Amazon use https.
