Space & Time
A new serie appears recently on the Internet. It's dedicated to net users, you can watch it on the BestOf Wiki (which literally is !!!). Here is the first episode :
It is true ! With e-comms, You can much more control space and time. For example the time-shifting mode on your remote control give you access to a self centered vision of the time, one individual can control a broadcast program for himself.
With the SlingBox you can manage your own recording from anywhere. If you have paid for two hundreds channels on your tv, you'll get access to them wherever you are on the earth if you have internet.
In class, e-comms are great when there are problems (strikes, weather, handicaps). Every teacher should do video podcast of his own courses and publish it freely on the Internet.
Here are some interesting links :
The future of e-culture ?
These kind of project are based on the Collective Intelligence : Everyone knows something and everyone can share and improve the community well fare.
If everyone knows something, nobody knows everything.
Next steps are several :
- Find non-intrusive business models - Ads, season tickets, patron ? (hosting data costs a lot, that is why Google propose to Wikipedia to help a bit...)
- Bring in Internet all personn on earth to participate
- Create an organisation to handle and anticipate problems on the Internet composed various profils, independent of a specific country.
Global instance ?

Google or not ?

Today one of the main problem for Google is to become next "Microsoft" on the Web. So well implemented that anyone fear it.
When success leads to problem. Google is doing so well that anyone could be a bit afraid of being trapped into database with all all all : name, age, grandpa name, grandpa age, passion, daughter passion, favorite bike, next hollyday, etc...
A Google Addict put his life in google's databases : mail, instant message, request, video, blog, mash-up, mobile (?). Google has not done any Big Brother things but already a phantasm is showing :
But is It a good trial ?
For instance, Google "has just" followed the rules of each country in which it is implemented, special subjects, taboo are censured... Maybe to show that Google has some philantropic intentions much more than Evil it'll be that the giant firm show the example. Google should discuss and launch debats to see with net users why the censhorship is on !

Police & Web
Web, Rampage and YouTube
Tuesday 8th November 2007, seven schoolchildren and their principal were killed when a student opened fire in a town near Helsinki, in the deadliest shooting in Finland's history. The gunman shot himself in the head and died later in hospital. Two hours before police learned of the shootings, the gunman posted a warning with pictures of the campus and an armed man on YouTube, an online video service of Google Inc.
It is probably impossible for the police to check every video like this on YouTube. Internet is not about Control, it should be about knowledge and sharing... About this terrible story, the best way to stop this trends is to inform and communicate about this sort of rampage and to know why it is happening. No auto script control on video can get how desperate this man was.
The best way to help is propably in the Real Life, and to put some original contents online for each country, written by specialists to help people and to prevent this sort of act.

Do's & Don'ts - email
I got a letter from you today. It is always nice to get a letter from you. Keep writing. I appreciate knowing that you are doing well. We hear that it is a very cold and snowy winter in the States this year. I hope you are keeping warm. The winter here has been warmer on the average than usual. However, the days it has been cold it has been much colder than normal for here. Last month they had the biggest snowfall here in a hundred years. It was also much colder than it had been in years. It was only in the 20's, but that is really cold here. The houses are not built for such cold weather. It got to 48 degrees in our house. Again this week it got real cold, but only for a couple of days... etc"...
Some cool websites explain how to write a good mail. There are no strict rules... The basics are to fit to the recipient, to use wisely the "subject" line, to be clear and composed, more than in a mail.- Brevity : It’s the soul of wit, you know. You may have lots of information to share, but in email you are in a long list of others competing for your recipient’s attention.
- Context. If you sent an email, you have a point. Get to it.
- Something to act on : Make your requests clear.
- A deadline : There comes a time when the response you seek is no longer useful.

Collective intelligence

Down, you can find the (California) Speech about the book. It's about "Wisdom of Crowds"
The book has been written trought the idea of participation. As the Segolene Royal Politic Program, they used collective intelligence (via Internet) to regroup all the good ideas and write the best book possible about this subject.
Certainly, this a great idea to get different points of view. Also this is really interesting for companies, such as Dell to get ideas to perfectly fit to the needs (check Dell IdeaStorm). And one of the main feature following form this concept of Collective intelligence is Saving ! Contents are generated by users not by the Firms. And by this way, the consumer is proud of what "we have done" and is much linked to the brand.

Get money from 'ano'

Today I wish we could discuss briefly Prosper.
Prosper defines itself as the "the leading online community for people to people lending. Borrow or lend money in a secure P2P loan marketplace".
As you can get DIVX and MP3 from someone you do not know on eMule, it is now possible to get fre$h ca$h from anonyms on Prosper. Off course you'll have to pay back with interest depending on the rate defined by a compromise between the "borrower" and the "lender"...
But as in real life, it is much more easy to borrow money when you do not have money problem.
So a system of "credit grades" is on to know if you are "serious" or not, a letter to know if your safety dregree : "Prosper obtains your Experian Scorex PLUSSM credit score from your credit report, and assigns one of seven credit grades". In fact Prosper is a sort of Mix between MySpace and Ebay which the first leading trusted people to people sales platform.
In the future we can imagine others "go-between" about informations. This intermediary are essential when so many sources exist online. Things like "label" and Webring may appear to give credit to blog or online paper for example.Synchro Work

With Google Docs, You and Your team can work on the same documents. Technologically as easy as it sounds, this collaborative tool involves new constraints : synchronious work.
Few principles to make it work :
* Focus on objectives. The main idea is to use technology not to be used by it. Bring out your favorite patient skill to stick with the situation and see what’s going on !
* Respect the others. By respecting contribution, you respect contributors. Imagine if anyone is deleting others works. This new tool requires to respect the value of each person, each point of view. If not…
* Prepare yourself. It is easy to make every one loses time ! Prepare your account, your knowledge with technology, and write thinks only when you’re quite sure of it.
That’s all folks !

Hit of 2007 ?

But anyway, Second Life will probably be a success in 2007 because of many reasons. In fact it is the place to be ! Msn exists to link everyoby in real time. But Msn do not propose this recreationnal version of the chat. It is true that the Net is full of RPG (Role Playing Game) World of Warcraft, Everquest, etc... but They are too far from the reality... The second life incarnes the virtual reality in which every internet surfer can take shape.
Public question

"What would be the best qualities of a Video CV (or resume) posted on the internet? What is the main purpose? What are the essential qualities? What links or additional features should it have?"
First, i'd like to salute him. Sometimes his questions are a bit innocent, but as would have they Yoda : this one, i will answer. Your video CV, is not a text CV, that is sure... Yoda would have said the same.
Caracteristic and expectation are different from a basic CV. So the visual aspect is much more important, you've entered the world of appareance, your speech can be pointless, if you're visual hot : it is cool. So this videos has to be visualy attractive, short (because you do not have to bother the watcher, but it has to be revealing of your personnality. It is not necessary to lie... Anyway, if you're reading this text you're already a sort of genious :)
You should also incrust in your video the address of a website centralizing your CV text and incrust your email address.
A sort of e-CV online - Watch this.
Hey dude ? We know each other ?

Facebook is a concept from US, it is a sort of collection of students studying (or who were studying in a university). In fact it is a website where students can know each others and keep in touch... A sort of community.
You can post different infos : age, sex, hobbies etc... But the problem is that Facebook can be read from any pc's connected to Internet. So your private infos can be stolen and used for other things. What for ? For example : Marketing, spamming, identity thief etc... So use this tools, but beware (as ever) !
An example of facebook
Privacy Pollution
Maybe ... in fact it is possible... and some companies make money on registering your profil. For some, The objective is to build strong database with many different profil, and a lot of infos : name, age, sex, hobbies, email address, real address, a dog ? a pet ? in couple ? married ? Have you bought a lawnmower recently ? do you need one ? etc... etc....
For the user the pollution takes shape of spam, undesirable email. And this spam is source of pollution, it represents a huge waste of money for providers

Now it is sure.

How ? Just go to YouTube website. But Why ? Not just because it is free. But because if you want to promote something, someone or discover e-culture, it is a place to be !
You access to a large community and so, you can keep in touch or meet many person linked to you hobbit or interessed by your stuff. In fact instead of you "netcasting" your videos on the Internet, YouTube offers you some well craft application...
You can build your own net TV with your favorite videos, you can build a sort of web ring with your friends, you got also your own mail, a system to subscire to group, and a place (a page)
to describe you.
We didn't discuss about the main thing that is making YouTube. It is a central website on the Internet, is value is also coming from all the people, trafic ! If your stuff is well accepted on YouTube, your work can circulate through millions of computers.
Backup my friend.

First you can get an external hard drive. Lacie are cool and strong. You stock your work on them regulary.
Antother thing, you get save your datas on the web, private servors exist. And you can get a huge virtual disk accessible from everywhere. Free offer you this possibility. BUT you have to be aware about the security risk. Do not leave these sort of material without passwords etc...
Watch out about security and web with htaccess file.
Upload !

The easiest way to create your page ! CMS - Content Management System. You don't know HTML, PHP, python, CSS, you don't care, but you want to have some pages online to put texts, images, videos etc... A rich website without very specific technical skills.
Few years ago, it wasn't possible on Internet. And now thanks to developpers all over the world, you can easily build and put content on the Web.
The most well known example for CMS : a Blog. You put your texts in cases and choose your title blog, its skin and some other things and in few seconds your website is online. While few years ago, many hours would have been necessary. Other example : Wikipedia. A big CMS everyone can manage contents, on every pages.
Blogger profides free offer to host your Blog, like this one.
